entry 02.

Lately, I’ve been circling the idea of stories as spaces.
i feel like Adventure Time is one of those spaces.

*In these sketches, I wasn’t trying to document a cartoon set. I was studying a kind of architecture we rarely allow: Warm, personal, living and brave enough to stay unfinished.

Architecture has long been praised for its ability to endure, to resist time, to stand unshaken. From its earliest days, we’ve admired buildings that refuse to fall. But I think, Land of Ooo is full of architecture that is broken in a way, it is a breathing world. It doesn’t fix things. It witnesses them. Maybe for architecture, that’s enough.

in the show, there is a tree house where jake and finn live. it’s a structure that evolves by use. in a way, i believe it is post-architectural.

The tree is living, shifting. The house is more like clothing stretched over a body, constantly changing with memory.

here’s a sketch series of the kitchen from the tree house. first, only the living tree branches. after, creating a space of inhabitation. And lastly, enjecting life.
A wooden plank was placed because someone needed to sit.
A cupboard was added because someone once brought home too many pickles.
A window was carved where someone wished for light.

this makes me think: What if we stopped finishing buildings and let them grow old with us?
